Zusammenfassung
In der sozialwissenschaftlichen Literatur existiert keine einheitliche Definition, was unter Index oder Indexbildung subsumiert werden kann und ob und wie sich Indexbildung von Skalierungsverfahren abgrenzt. Diese fehlende definitorische Eindeutigkeit entspringt nicht zuletzt der Frage, ob Indizes auch als Instrumente zur Messung sozialwissenschaftlicher Konzepte bezeichnet werden dürfen (Diekmann 2009: 230ff.).
