Zusammenfassung
Es ist in der empirischen Sozialforschung und insbesondere der Umfrageforschung Common Sense, vor der eigentlichen Datenerhebung Pretests durchzuführen. Deren Ziel ist es, die Datenerhebung ex ante, d.h. vor ihrem eigentlichen Beginn zu optimieren. Dabei versteht man Pretests nicht als punktuelle Verfahren oder einmalig durchzuführende Methode (typischerweise kurz bevor ein Fragebogen ins Feld geht), sondern als eine Menge von Verfahren zur Qualitätssicherung des Erhebungsinstruments, ja des gesamten Erhebungsdesigns, die im Zuge der Fragebogenerstellung und Erhebungsplanung Anwendung finden.
