Zusammenfassung
Der Beitrag behandelt die Frage, welche Rolle Grenzen und Distanzen (bzw. Näheformen) für innovationsbasierte Integrationsprozesse in grenzüberschreitenden Regionen spielen. Aufbauend auf Erkenntnissen der „Proximity School“ wird zwischen verschiedenen Arten von Barrieren, welche als physische, funktionale, kognitive und institutionelle Distanzen definiert werden, unterschieden und deren Wirkungen auf Innovations- und Integrationsprozesse in grenzüberschreitenden Wirtschaftsregionen analysiert. Dabei wird eine grundlegende Differenzierung zwischen Innovationssystemen mit schwacher innovationsbasierter Integration und solchen mit stärker ausgeprägten innovationsgetriebenen Integrationsformen vorgenommen. Abschließend wird der zukünftige Forschungsbedarf zum Thema des Buchbeitrags skizziert.
