Zusammenfassung
Anhand einer Systematisierung verschiedener Selbstvermessungs-Szenarien diskutiert der vorliegende Artikel das gegenwärtige Umsichgreifen von Self-Tracking-Technologien als Teil eines breiten Transformationsprozesses sozialer Steuerungspotentiale. Selbstvermessung wird dabei weniger als emergentes Phänomen der letzten Jahre, sondern viel mehr als vorläufiger Höhepunkt der weltweiten Karriere statistischer Wissensproduktion betrachtet, deren gesellschaftliche Bedeutung sich seit dem Aufkommen der ersten öffentlich zugänglichen Bevölkerungsstatistiken stetig vergrößert hat. In Anlehnung an die Gouvernementalitäts- und Normalismusforschung wird dabei davon ausgegangen, dass die Konstituierung des modernen Selbstes seit jeher in starkem Maße mit numerischen Messwerten und öffentlichen Statistiken koinzidiert.
