Abstract
Ethylene (ET) is metabolized in rats to the carcinogenic ethylene oxide (EO) (Filser and Bolt 1983a). Since ET is produced in rats (Sagai and Ichinose 1980) and in humans (Ram Chandra and Spencer 1963), an endogenous risk from ET via EO has to be concluded. A prerequisite to quantitate the risk of ET is a detailed information on the pharmacokinetics and the production rate of ET in rat and man.
