Anti-Inflammatory Substances of Plant Origin

  • Chapter
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs

Part of the book series: Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology ((HEP,volume 50 / 2))

Abstract

Until recently, information on anti-inflammatory agents of plant origin was sparse. The first reviews dealt primarily with the phenylbenzo-γ-pyrones (flavonoids) (Gábor, 1972 a, 1975); however, there are other substances of plant origin with antiinflammatory action. Although these are not as potent as the non-steroid antiinflammatory agents knowledge of the structure activity relationships may lead to newer and more effective preparations.
