Abstract
Adsorption reactions in soils are the processes by which solution constituents become attached to the surfaces of soil particles and are the means of satisfying the forces of attraction that exists at the surfaces. These processes are governed by the surface properties of inorganic and organic components of soils and the associated environmental factors. Substances which can be retained by soil particles include soil constituents, plant nutrients, surfactants, antibiotics and toxic environmental pollutants present in soil solutions. These may be present as cations, anions and nonionic molecules.
