Zusammenfassung
Dieser Beitrag ist der Selbstdarstellung in den sozialen Netzwerken im Internet gewidmet. Zwölf leitfadengestützte Interviews mit Nutzern der deutschen Website StudiVZ sollten zeigen, wie bewusst die individuelle Selbstdarstellung bei der Gestaltung von Online-Profilen praktiziert wird, welcher Eindruck bei anderen Nutzern erzeugt werden soll und welche Profilelemente dafür explizit eingesetzt werden. Darüber hinaus wurde analysiert, wie Online-Profile anderer Nutzer von den Profilinhabern wahrgenommen werden. Die Ergebnisse deuten an, dass Nutzer durchaus reflektiert bei der Gestaltung ihres Profils vorgehen. Weibliche Nutzer legen bei der Selbstdarstellung einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf visuelle Informationen (z. B. das Profilbild), während männliche Nutzer stärker Informationen zum beruflichen Lebenslauf fokussieren. Angestrebt wird von den Nutzern eine möglichst realitätsnahe Selbstdarstellung, die jedoch im Widerspruch zur Einschätzung steht, dass andere Profilinhaber häufig zu einer verfälschten Selbstdarstellung tendieren.
