Zusammenfassung
In vielen sozialwissenschaftlichen Studien ist die abhängige Variable nur in ordinaler Skalierung verfügbar. Sie liefert Information über „mehr oder weniger“, aber keine Quantifizierung der Abstände zwischen den Werten der Kategorien. Häufig wird der ordinale Charakter der Messung jedoch ignoriert und eine stetige und annähernd normal verteilte abhängige Variable unterstellt, um auf dieser Grundlage lineare OLS-Regressionen anwenden zu können.
