Abstract
This paper summarizes the navigation of autonomous shuttle in a pedestrian area using a behavior-based architecture with Pedestrian Interaction System (PIS). For pedestrians to accept autonomous shuttles in their vicinity, it is important to have a safe distance between the shuttle and the pedestrians. The PIS determines the scheme of interaction with pedestrians based on their behavior. It also keeps the pace of the shuttle by recognizing safe conditions in a pedestrian zone. The experiments are performed in a simulated environment. It shows that the shuttle moves efficiently on a predefined track, keeping the safety of the environment when PIS is active.
