Abstract
The fungistatic activity of saponins could be demonstrated both in vivo and in vitro. The Trichoderma viride bioassay is based on the in vitro fungistatic effect of saponins. The bioassay is an appropriate method to indicate and measure the fungitoxic saponin content of alfalfa, coronilla or other plants (Zimmer et al, 1967; Jurzysta, 1979). An in vivo effect of saponins is demonstrated in the resistance of plants to moulds (Price et al, 1987).
