Abstract
Preliminary experimental and clinical studies suggest that cerebral gangliosides promote peripheral nerve regeneration and produce symptomatic and electrophysiological improvement in patients with diabetic neuropathy. However, in view of the chroni-city of this neuropathy and the limitation of those clinical studies to 40 days duration, 1,2 more extensive investigations are desirable to sustain the efficacy of ganglioside therapy. To this end CronassialR, a combination of GM1, GDla, GDlb, and GTlb (Fidia Research Laboratories, Italy), was administered with a prolonged double blind controlled protocol.
