The Physics of the Benthic Boundary Layer

  • Chapter
The Benthic Boundary Layer

Abstract

Physical laws governing profiles of velocity, temperature, and dissolved substance in the benthic boundary layer are discussed (some measurements of highly unstable temperature profiles near the deep-sea floor remain unexplained). Deep-sea and shelf boundary layers are compared. The effects of fluctuations with a wide range of time scales are described.
