Abstract
The capacity to monitor tissue oxygenation, both non-invasively and with high spatial and temporal resolution, would be of significant value in the study of tissue responses to hypoxia. While oxygen concentration at the mitochondrial level is desired for studies of metabolic regulation, very useful information often can be obtained by measuring oxygenation (pO2 or content) in the vascular system.
