Microgenetic Techniques of Personality Assessment

Cognitive Microgenesis

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Neuropsychology ((SSNEUROPSYCHOL))

Abstract

Following Sander (1928/1962) and Froehlich (1983), microgenesisl is the process of percept formation that occurs in consciousness and is observable in its entirety, from beginning to end. Of the several developmental progressions, for example, ontogenesis and phylogenesis, microgenesis is the only one that lends itself to observation throughout all of its stages. It is often brought about by artificially extending the perceptual process and obstructing the instantaneous recognition of the object presented. This objective is accomplished by some technique of stimulus impoverishment, most prominently exemplified by tachistoscopic presentation.
