Focused Section on New Trends in Intelligent Automation by Industrial Robots

Industrial robots provide dexterous and cost-effective solutions for high-speed and flexible automation. With recent advances in new materials, sensor fusion, and deep learning techniques, smarter robotic automation play an increasing role in manufacturing sectors. This focused section aims at disseminating new design, modeling, control, and programming methods for intelligent automation by industrial robots. Potential topics of interest for this focused section include but are not limited to: • Design, modeling, and control of end-effectors for industrial robots • Calibration of robotic manipulators and the work cells with machine learning methods • In-situ measurements of workpieces for robotic automation • Real-time programming techniques for industrial robots • Robotic machining, surface finishing, and additive manufacturing • Grasping, teleoperation, and other dexterous manipulations by industrial robots • Controls of industrial robots toward human-robot cohabitation and multi-robot cooperation • Digital twins for automation lines with industrial robots
