Computing in Biomedical Engineering Education

Biomedical Engineering Education announces a special call for papers focused on computing in biomedical engineering education. We aim to solicit papers from a wide range of courses and programs, spanning introductory and advanced college courses that have a computing or programming element, K-12 outreach, “boot camps”, hackathons, community partnerships and other co- and extra-curricular experiences, as well as evolving topics such as data science and generative AI. Additionally, we encourage partnerships between instructors implementing these topics in their courses and pedagogy-focused instructors for high-impact submissions. Papers should highlight the implementation, evaluation, and impact of evidence-based practices.

Papers may be one of the following types:

Teaching Tips – short papers that illustrate how to implement evidence-based practices in the BME classroom, curriculum, or extracurricular programs.

Innovation papers – full-length articles that describe the application of evidence-based science and engineering education best practices in a BME setting.

Research articles – full-length articles that describe original, hypothesis-driven, or research question-driven work in BME education.

Perspectives – guest editorials sharing insights about current trends, challenges, diversity, or other pressing topics in BME education.

Reviews – articles that critically summarize important aspects of BME education, adding insights that advance BME education research and practice.

Submission guidelines and details on paper types can be found here.

Authors are encouraged to submit an abstract that defines the paper type and the general scope of the intended paper. Authors may submit a full paper without first having submitted an abstract. Submission of abstracts (~300 words in length, optional): August 15, 2024 Notification of editorial feedback on abstracts: September 1, 2024 Submission of manuscript: November 1, 2024
