Special Issue by invitation only: HARMO20- Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes

The series of International Conferences on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes (HARMO Conferences) is a main activity of the International Initiative on this topic, started in 1991. Originally born as a European initiative for regulatory purposes, the Harmo Initiative and its conference series have developed in an open intercontinental forum. The final goal is the improvement of dispersion models for regulatory purposes and for real-time applications, addressing latest scientific findings and meeting specific demands of society and regulators. ‘Harmonisation’ is motivated by the goal of employing the best available meteorological and air quality sciences in a consensual way to best serve the needs of the society and citizens. This Collection contains papers from the 20th HARMO Conference (HARMO20), held in Tartu, Estonia, in June 2021.

Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health is a multidisciplinary journal focusing on atmospheric consequences of human activities and their implications for human and ecological health.

    Snr Researcher at the Inst. of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the Italian National Research Council, Responsible of the Torino Branch since 2011, and Adjunct Prof. at the Dept. of Physics of Torino Univ Her main experiences are in the field of boundary-layer meteorology, atmospheric turbulence and dispersion, air pollution, numerical modelling and data analysis. Since 2010 she is a member of the Steering Committee of the Int. Tech. Meeting on Air Pollution Modelling and its Application, and since 2017 she is the Chair of the Initiative on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes and its Conferences.
  • Philippe Thunis

    Philippe Thunis

    Scientific Project Manager and has been working since 1995 at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Italy. His main experiences are in meteorology, emissions, air quality and integrated assessment modeling. He co-developed the SHERPA model to support local authorities in their air quality plans. Since 2014, he chairs the European Forum for air quality modeling (FAIRMODE) that aims at harmonizing and improving modelling practices across Member States. Since 2011 he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Initiative on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Disperson Modelling for Regulatory Purposes.
