Thyroid diseases and non-communicable diseases

Τhis issue comprises a collection of articles on thyroid diseases today and their treatment with levothyroxine while also highlighting the important connections between thyroid diseases, particularly the several types of hypothyroidism, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs are collectively responsible for an estimated 74% of deaths worldwide, thus forming the heaviest burden of disease today on public health. Thyroid diseases are not yet considered to be NCDs. The articles explore optimal treatment options and highlight the connection between thyroid disease and risk factors for NCDs.
