Young Lives for a Sustainable Earth
- Submission status

This article collection examines the complex inter-relationships between youth aspirations, lifestyles, energy use, social justice, consumption patterns, ecosystems and youth wellbeing.
Estimates suggest almost half the world’s population of seven billion people are under the age of 25. The world’s current population of 7.5 billion is estimated to surpass 9 billion by 2050. The world’s most youthful countries are located in Africa and South Asia. This youthful energy will drive trends in innovation, resource and energy use and consumption. In aging populations, patterns of consumption also continue to rise while many communities report rising mental ill-health and inequality with far reaching implications for the sustainability of the earth and social systems. Sustainable Earth recognizes that understanding the complex relationships between youth aspiration, and wellbeing and the natural environment are critical questions for this century.
