This Topical Collection (TC) is addressed to present and highlight the research activities carried out in Mechanism and Machine Science that can contribute to reach some targets within SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals.
Every day it is becoming clearer and clearer that sustainability, in the wide sense expressed by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is the centre of tomorrows technical challenges. The 17 Goals, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, represent a road map which can also address and inspire the research within typical areas of Mechanism and Machine Science.
Some, non-exhaustive, examples:
• Research on Biomechanical Engineering are correlated to SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being
• Studies on Sustainable Energy Systems are addressed to SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy
• All the topics covered by IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) Technical Committees can be related to SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production
• Humanitarian Engineering and Appropriate Technologies are linked to SDG 10, Reduced Inequalities and SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities.
This TC originates from I4SDG Conference, IFToMM for Sustainable Development Goals, in order to host best extended papers, but aspires to host the best researches that emphasize the contribution of mechanical engineering to the achievement of the SDGs.
