Osteosarcopenia

Aging Clinical and Experimental Research (ACER) is committed to advancing understanding and improving outcomes in gerontology. In line with the journal's scope, the topic "Osteosarcopenia" emerges as a pivotal area of inquiry. Manuscripts exploring the following themes are particularly encouraged:

Pathophysiology and Mechanisms: Investigations into the underlying mechanisms linking osteoporosis and sarcopenia, including shared pathways, molecular interactions, and the bidirectional relationship between bone and muscle health.

Clinical Implications and Complications: Examination of the clinical implications of osteoporosis-sarcopenia overlap, such as increased fracture risk, functional impairment, falls, and mortality in aging populations.

Diagnostic Strategies and Assessment Tools: Development and validation of innovative diagnostic methods and assessment tools to detect and quantify osteoporosis and sarcopenia, individually and in combination, facilitating early detection and targeted interventions.

Interventions and Management Approaches: Exploration of novel interventions and management strategies, including exercise regimens, pharmacological treatments, nutritional interventions, and multidisciplinary approaches to mitigate the adverse effects of osteoporosis-sarcopenia complex.

ACER invites original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies that contribute to advancing knowledge and informing practice in the field of osteoporosis and sarcopenia. By addressing this critical intersection, ACER aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and promote holistic approaches to optimize bone and muscle health in aging populations.

  • Chiara Ceolin

    Chiara Ceolin

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Padua in 2017 with a specialization in Geriatrics in 2023, Dr.Ceolin holds a position as a visiting researcher at the Aging Research Center in Stockholm, Sweden. She is affiliated with organizations such as the Italian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology and the Italian Society of Osteoporosis, Mineral Metabolism, and Skeletal Diseases. Her research primarily focuses on osteoporosis in adults and the old adults, investigating its clinical-functional implications in aging. Additionally, her work encompasses the assessment of body composition, sarcopenia, and energy metabolism.

    Konstantinos Prokopidis

Konstantinos Prokopidis' research focuses on blood and faecal metabolites related to sarcopenia in patients with heart failure, aiming to identify biomarkers that could be targeted by pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Overall, his research interests centre on treatments or preventative measures for sarcopenia and cognitive decline in ageing and populations with chronic conditions.
