The final ceremony of the 2019 Association of British Turkish Academics Doctoral Researcher Awards (ABTA DRA 2019) took place on 11 May 2019 at the University College London. That event saw the best PhD candidates in the fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering from across the UK compete through oral and poster presentations of their PhD works. The research and presentations were of high caliber and the aim of this topical collection is to gather these contributions.
