Call for Papers: Stem Cells and UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Target 3.3: The impact of epidemics (COVID, AIDS, etc.) and infectious diseases on health, well-being, and longevity

Participating journal: Stem Cell Reviews and Reports

United Nations Member States in 2015 adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, that provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are identified, an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

Approaching this challenging agenda, Stem Cell Reviews and Reports will create a Topical Collection focused on SDG 3 to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and in particular, Target 3.3 “to end the epidemics of COVID-19, AIDS, tuberculosis etc.” We call for papers that address the impact of COVID and other infectious diseases (e.g. AIDS), on stem cell compartment. In particular, COVID-19 is threating decades of progress in global health as there are more than 500 million people infected and its effects on life expectancy and mental health could be devastating. Evidence is accumulating that COVID-19 damages stem cell compartment and thus affects the proper functioning of stem cells, which is crucial for healthy aging and physical and mental wellbeing. This Topical Collection and Call for Papers also includes papers related to fighting cancer stem cells and stem cells and longevity.

Therefore, to participate in this important UN initiative we encourage the submission of state of the art reviews and original papers which address these important challenging questions. Along with their timely publication in issues, these papers will be gathered into an online Topical Collection for agile access.
