‘Many Sides, Many Truths’: Collaborative Filmmaking in Transitional Northern Ireland

  • Chapter
Ireland and Cinema

Abstract

This chapter examines some of the challenges of making documentary films in Northern Ireland’s current transitional period from violence to peace. I offer a reflection of my experience as editor and co-director of the 60-minute documentary filmWe Were There (Aguiar & McLaughlin, 2014) about the women’s experiences as visitors and workers of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison.1 The film was made in collaboration with the Prisons Memory Archive (PMA) and its participants.2
