Abstract

Have you heard of the psychological test where the central element in the test was a person dressed in a gorilla costume? In this test conducted in the United States at the end of the 1990s, test subjects were shown video footage of people playing basketball. One team was dressed in white shirts, the other one in black. The test subjects were given the task to observe the game and count how many times the players in white shirts passed the ball back and forth. In the middle of the basketball game, a person dressed as a gorilla walked onto the field and beat his chest with his fists, looking straight into the camera. Then the gorilla walked out of the picture. The basketball game continued normally during the gorilla’s performance. A video of this basketball game is available at http://www.theinvisiblegorilla.com.
