Abstract
The model previously proposed to account for electrical conductivity of charged and uncharged aqueous polymer solutions [Raicu et al. (1997) Colloid Polym Sci 275:372] is now applied to polymeric acid-nonionic surfactant systems. The polymer tested was the poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and octaethylene glycol mono(n-dodecyl) ether (C12E8) was the surfactant. The work provides information about the shape and volume of polymer coil, and correlates their changes with the interaction critical points (T n). It was established that the shape of the polymer coil changes during the interaction from one almost spherical (at T 1) to another corresponding to an oblate spheroid (after T′2). The study also gives a picture of the polymer-surfactant complex.
