Recent years have witnessed constant controversy concerning China’s status as a market or non-market economy in the World Trade Organization (WTO) legal regime. This controversy was principally and directly triggered by the expiry of Sect. 15(a)(ii) of China’s Accession Protocol to the WTO, provisions specifying China’s special non-market economy (NME) treatment commitments, on December 11, 2016
