Notes

  1. 1.

The Manchurian Regime (1 March 1932–18 August 1945), was a puppet regime established with the support of Japanese Government after its occupation of northeast China. Because the National Government and the CPC and the international community refused to acknowledge such regime, it is also called the “Puppet Manchurian State”. The regime can be also translated into the “Manchukuo”.—Translator’s note.

Jin Jianxiao served as the Member of the Publicity Department the CPC West District Party Committee of Harbin City in the spring of 1932. Jiang Chunfang (姜椿芳), “Jin Jianxiao and Revolutionary Art Activities in Harbin (金剑啸与哈尔滨革命文艺活动)”, in the “Appendix”, ibid., at p. 110. The “洲” (Zhou in Chinese Pinyin) from the title Manchuria Red Flag (满洲红旗) was mistakenly printed as “州” (Zhou in Chinese Pinyin) in the original newspaper.

  14. 14.

The specific time when Jin Jianxiao resigned from the Notary Office remains to be further verified. This book adopts the statement in the “Chronicle of Jin Jianxiao’s Life” compiled by Liu Shusheng and Li Dong. See Liu Shusheng (刘树声) and Li Dong (里栋) (eds.), “Chronicle of Jin Jianxiao’s Life” (金剑啸年谱), in the “Appendix”, ibid., at p. 288. According to Fang Weiyi, an underground member of the Communist Party of China, who was the editor of the Harbin International Association Newspaper, he met with Jin Jianxiao in a Notary Office on Central Avenue under the leadership of Jin Boyang (金伯阳), a member of the CPC Manchuria Provincial Committee, in the summer of 1933. Accordingly, Jin Jianxiao seemed to have not resigned at that time. See Fang Weiyi (方未艾), “The Poet Painter Jin Jianxiao (诗人画家金剑啸)”, in the “Appendix”, ibid., at p. 122.
