Abstract
An analysis of the features of radial shaped turning with tools with a convex radius profile, as opposed to straight-blade cutting, is given in order to develop analytical dependencies for calculating force characteristics. During radial shaped (form) turning, parameters such as thickness of cut, specific pressures, and plan approach angle are variable along the cutting edge both during plunging and when deepening to the full profile height. Thus, taking this into account for different cutting modes, the possibility of implementing the task using the calculated values of cutting areas and average specific pressures is considered. In this regard, this work presents data of extensive experimental studies of force parameters in accordance with variable cutting areas. The values of average specific pressures were also obtained. The obtained databases of the relationship of geometric and force characteristics are the basis for solving the problem of developing reliable design formulae of forces for radial shaped turning.
