Abstract
The chapter examines the reactions and responses of India and the European Union to President Donald Trump’s policies and assesses their impact on India-EU relations. New Delhi, the author argues, has a much more benign view of the Trump Administration than Europe. While the European Union, he maintains, seems to be slowly aligning itself with the American approach towards China, it contributes very little to India’s critical security needs. The rise of Trump has tended to increase India’s cooperation with Europe (e.g., the new 2018 EU-India Strategy) as Brussels seeks to increase cooperation with like-minded middle powers like India to preserve the postwar liberal multilateral order.
