Abstract
This timeline focuses on Xu Bing’s exhibitions held in international and domestic venues against the backdrop of key events in Post-Mao experimental art and activities of the ’85 New Wave art generation. Relying on primary sources and secondary literature, we illustrate the geographic development of contemporary Chinese art in relationship to the arc of Xu Bing’s artistic career from Book from the Sky (1987-1991) to Phoenix (2014).
Compiled by Stephanie Fenner, Yin Dingwei, Guo Qiuzi, and Yu-Chieh Li.
