Abstract
With the increasing number of cars on the road worldwide, many towns and cities face parking problems with drivers often spending significant time before finding somewhere to park. Mauritius is no exception and this paper presents an agent-based model for a smart mobile parking booking system for the Mauritian context. The system considers the position of the driver and the speed at which his car is travelling, and proposes the most appropriate and available parking slot to him based on the place he wants to go, his destination arrival time and also the parking fee he wants to pay. The system is modelled using an agent-oriented approach, whereby each agent tackles a specific problem. As such, the model proposes seven different agents, assigned specific tasks and working independently of each other in order to direct a driver to a parking slot. One of the main contributions of this model is that it considers the driver’s destination arrival time among other factors when allocating parking slots. It also takes into account the analytics for past parking slots allocations to proceed with the allocation process.
