Abstract
I’m often asked why I study what I study. “Isn’t race over with?” naysayers ask. “Isn’t it best to take the emotions out of race?” they insist. Regardless as to whether or not these inquiries stem from good intention, they are nonetheless violent to me; for I spent twelve years in higher education to refine my studies in race in education to a point where I can clearly state, “I study a feminist of color approach to deconstructing the emotionality of whiteness in urban education.”
