Abstract
Photosystem II(PSII) provides the electrons for plastoquinone reduction and the positive charges for water oxidation. The secondary electron transfer events associated with PSII, such as plastoquinone reduction and water oxidation, remain to be elucidated. In the present work, we have examined the composition and functional properties of a resolved PSII preparation capable of oxygen evolution and plastoquinone photoreduction. Because this preparation is devoid of PSI and deficient in the cytochrome b/f complex, it is ideal for detailed structural analysis.
