Abstract
Changes in thylakoid stacking, chlorophyll fluorescence yield and light scattering upon varying the cation composition of a broken chloroplast suspension have been widely reported. Contrasting results have been presented about a strict correlation between changes in light scattering or thylakoid stacking and changes in fluorescence yield (Murakami, Packer, 1971; Murata, 1971; Gross, Hess, 1974; Krause, 1974; Argyroudi-Akoyunoglou, Akoyunoglou, 1977; Wollman, Diner, 1980), whereas the changes in thylakoid stacking and light scattering have been proposed to be closely related (Wollman, Diner, 1980). In this work we reinvestigated the possible correlation between these phenomena by studying the kinetics of their decrease upon EDTA addition to Mg-ion stacked chloroplasts.
