Abstract
Blast disease caused by Pyricularia grisea is one of the most destructive diseases in the world where rice is grown. In Korea, the occurrence of the disease was first recorded in the early 1900s. To date acreage of rice cultivation is more or less one million hectares, and leaf blast occurs in one hundred and fifty thousand hectares annually, and panicle blast in eleven thousand hectares on average (RDA, 1995).
