Abstract
Industrial charcoal-making has a comparatively short history dating back about 150 years. The principles may be outlined as follows:
-
Relatively high investment costs;
-
Intensive use of labor-saving equipment and devices;
-
Efficient recovery of liquid and/or gaseous by-products for captive and commercial use;
-
Wide range of raw material usage, including forestry residues as well as agricultural and municipal waste;
-
Such projects necessarily involve prior feasibility studies, qualified plant design and organisation of logistics.
