Abstract
With the rise of anatomy in the sixteenth century a new era of medicine dawned. Botany, of which some knowledge was indispensable for the collecting of medicinal herbs, developed to a more mature science. Although in our time it is considered as an auxiliary science of lesser importance, in former ages it was, to a certain extent, the basic science of therapeutics and thus it was taught for centuries in the medical faculty only.
