Abstract

If machines are used for in vitro culture, then it is certain that liquid media are being used. This has the following consequences (Bonga and Durzan, 1982):

  1. 1.

The disadvantages of agar are no longer encountered (natural product with a complex and variable chemical composition), which results in more uniform cultures.

  2. 2.

Division, growth and vegetative propagation are more rapid on a liquid than on an agar medium. Shakers and fermentors are already in use in the vegetative propagation of lilies (Takayama and Misawa, 1982)., cell division in liquid media is far easier to synchronize, making biochemical research much easier.
