Abstract
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), discovered in 1965 by Penzias and Wilson (Penzias Sz Wilson 1965), is one of the main observational tools for cosmology. It is characterised by:
-
the isotropy and homogeneity at large scales: the same intensity is measured in all the directions, suggesting that the physical process at the origin of this emission has concerned the Universe as a whole.
-
the emission spectrum of the CMB is very close to the black body radiation.
