Abstract
In our book we are mainly concerned with algebraic curves. This chapter contains a description of their basic properties. We use the geometric language but the algebraic approach is also considered; over ℂ we use also analysis and topology. We do not consider arithmetical questions in this chapter; the ground field k is assumed here to be algebraically closed.
