Submarine canyon and associated base-of-slope sheet system: the Eocene Charo-Arro system, south-central Pyrenees, Spain

Atlas of Deep Water Environments

Abstract

The ESE-WNW trending Eocene Tremp-Pamplona foreland basin is parallel to the axial zone of the Pyrenean mountain belt. Detailed field mapping, sedimentology and photo-geological mapping have resulted in palaeogeographic reconstructions of the basin, evaluation of its tectonic evolution and the construction of a basin-wide stratigraphic framework (Mutti et al. 1972, 1985, 1989; Puigdefabregas 1975; Puigdefabregas and Souquet 1986; Sgavetti 1991).
