A Semantical Version of the Problem of Transcendental Idealism (1937)

Abstract

The remarks contained in the present paper are connected with the second of the two main problems proposed for discussion by the Organizing Committee of the Congress.¹ I intend to demonstrate here the great importance of contemporary logic for a satisfactory formulation and solution of central issues handed down to us by philosophical tradition. This paper will consist of two parts. In the first part, I will try to explain in general terms why the results of logic may be of use in solving philosophical — in particular, epistemological — problems. In the second part, I will give an example of such application of logic. I will show, namely that by using the concepts developed in modern logic the problem of transcendental idealism can be formulated precisely and solved in an elementary way.
