Abstract
Several days of the First International Workshop on Periphyton in Freshwater Ecosystems were devoted to intensive discussions on evaluations of the present understanding of periphytic communities and future needs and directions of research on periphyton. Participants divided into four topical subjects; their recommendations follow.
