Abstract
The diatom composition of the diatom-dominated reed-periphyton from a Dutch lake varied in time and space. In February, March, April and May 1982, samples were taken from opposite sides of the lake from the lakeside, center, and bankside of the two reedstands. A seasonal shift in algae was demonstrated for the two reedstands as a whole as well as for the bankside and lakeside. Spatial variation in the center of the stands appeared to be greater than the seasonal variation. Diversity indices of the two sides did not differ, except in February when there was great variation in the number of Tabellaria.
