Abstract

The purpose of this section is to help in the understanding of the mechanics of atoms and molecules in the water media, basing it as far as possible on modern theories of the physics of atoms. In a sense the present picture of atomic structure is fairly classical, although the more recent application of wave mechanics to problems of interaction of atoms has been exceedingly fruitful (Pauling, 1948).
