Abstract
E very steamship company, regardless of nationality or location of corporate headquarters, is organized to meet its own particular needs and its own specialized functions, and therefore no uniform pattern of organization exists in the workaday world of shipping. Nevertheless, the functions of the different officials, by whatever title they may be known, and however they may fit into their individual companies, are sufficiently similar to permit their identification within the corporate structure.
