Abstract

The pyrolysis of forestry wastes was carried out at relatively low heating rates and over a temperature range of 750–950°C. Under the experimental conditions used in this work, char was formed in amounts varying from 5% to 2 0% by weight of the input. The major gaseous products were observed to be oxides of carbon. The end products formed appeared to vary with temperature, particle size and with the heating rate. The overall reaction rate has been found to be first-order, indicating the presence of charring and other reactions as observed.
