Abstract
Tensor products are used in a wide area of functional analysis of which homology is only a small part. Without going into details we just note that it is natural to use the language of topological tensor products for formulating and solving certain questions on the geometry of Banach spaces (the approximation problem) [182], on the theory of function spaces and spaces of generalized functions (nuclear spaces and “nuclear theorems” [2, 49]), on harmonic analysis (the problem of spectral synthesis) [76, 33], and on operator theory (operator ideals and nuclear operator algebras) [57, 226]. Such a list could be continued.
